A new mural is coming to DownTown Park Forest and all are eligible to be featured in it.

The Discover the Spirit! Mural will be located on the second floor façade of a building located at the northwest corner of Main Street and Forest Boulevard.  Work is expected to begin in May with project completion by the end of July.  Local artists Aaron and Allen Hicks have been hired by the Village’s Mural Committee to design and paint the mural.

The Discover the Spirit! Mural is the second mural to come to DownTown Park Forest since the Park Forest Mural Project began in 2008.  The purpose of the project is to install murals on blank walls throughout DownTown Park Forest to:

·         Beautify otherwise blank, non-descript walls

·         Enhance the sense of place for the DownTown and the entire community

·         Showcase unique events or features of the community

·         Create another reason for residents and visitors to come to DownTown Park Forest

The Discover the Spirit Mural! will showcase the events that occur in DownTown Park Forest on an annual basis, including the Tall Grass Art Fair, the Kiwanis Club’s Pancake Day, the Park Forest Scenic 5 and More, the Farmers’ Market and Main Street Nights.

A silent auction will be held for interested members of the public to bid on any of the 28 available spots on the mural.  The winning bidders will serve as models to be depicted in the painting.

The Park Forest Mural Silent Auction begins Monday, February 1st, starting at 9 am and concludes at a reception to be held on Saturday, February 20th, from 3 pm to 5 pm at the Tall Grass Arts Gallery. Final Silent Auction bids will be accepted until 4 pm on Saturday, February 20th. Interested persons may take part in the Silent Auction Monday through Friday, during normal business hours, in the Economic Development and Planning Department, located on the second floor of the Park Forest Village Hall, 350 Victory Drive.

In addition to the Silent Auction, local organizations are eligible to sponsor individuals or scenes on the mural.  Park Forest residents can also enter a raffle, where one spot will be given away to a lucky winner.
