Park Forest Scenic 5 and more... 


This is the second annual running of the Park Forest Scenic 5 Mile and more.  The annual 
race has been reconstituted onto a 5 mile course and augmented with a 5 mile family bike ride
on the same course, a 5K nature walk around the Central Park Wetlands and include a
variety of other activities at the Park Forest Aqua Center. Check out the course and invite
your friends to come out and cheer on the runners and bikers or better yet join in the fun
and fitness of the event.

The Director of the Park Forest Scenic 10 Mile from 1988 until its end in 2007.
Head Coach  of Cross Country and Track at University High in Chicago. Has
coached national and international level athletes who have competed in
the US Olympic Trials, World Championships and international
road races. MS Western Illinois University and BS Lock Haven University.

THE COURSE  (See new video click here)

A fast and flat picturesque run beginning Downtown (Orchard & Main St)
and cruising past the 90 acre Central Park/Wetlands. At 1.5 miles, runners
will dive onto the straight, flat and shaded Old Plank Road Bike Trail for
another 1.5 miles then onto the curving streets of Park Forest.

The home stretch will be Orchard Dr, passing under the Trail (only
significant hills on the course) and finish at Central Park and home
of the Village’s 4-Pool Aquatics Complex (feel free to jump in). Along the
way, townspeople are out in crowds encouraging you, giving  water and
cheers. You will discover musical surprises all along the route. This
picturesque course is a CARA Runners' Choice Series, and certified by
USATF #IL08085.

Your Timing Device for the 2010 Scenic 5 Mile and more is the ChronoTrack B-Tag:
A single use bib tag. 

In order to receive an accurate time, please confirm your bib is:

Clearly visible on the front of the torso.
Unaltered and unmodified (do not fold or wrinkle)
Pinned in all four corners.
Not covered (jackets, runner belt, water bottles, etc.)


     

5 Mile RACE AWARDS
5 Mile Race Awards - 10:00 a.m. - Inside the Park Forest Aqua Center.
Bring your swimsuit and stay for the fun!

Awards will be given to the top three men and women in ages 0-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34,
35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-99.

Races for children 2-12 years of age beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Race day registation is available for the children's race only on race day.

6:30-7:30 a.m. 5 Mile Race Packet Pick-up (@ Coy's, 60 S. Orchard Dr.)
7:30-9:00 a.m. Children's Race Packet Pick-up at the Aqua Center
8:00 a.m. 5 Mile Start (Orchard Dr. & Main St.)
9:00-10:00 a.m. Music on stage at the finish (inside Aqua Center)
9:30 a.m. Children's Fun Run (Orchard Dr.)
10:00 a.m. 5 Mile Race Award Ceremony (inside the Aqua Center)


POST RACE FOOD FEST/POOL PARTY  - BRING THE FAMILY!
   
We have some fabulous food lined up after the race, so bring the family
and enjoy the fun! Runners wil receive two food tickets in their packets
and can purchase additional food items for a nominal price.  Don't forget to
bring your bathing suit and enjoy a dip in the pool at the Aqua Center!

DIRECTIONS TO PARK FOREST, IL


From  Interstate 294:  Exit 80 west to 57 south.  On 57 exit east on Sauk Trail and go approximately
3 miles to Lakewood. Turn left and follow Lakewood to the Downtown area.

From #394:  Exit west on Sauk Trail and go approximately 6 miles to Orchard. Turn right on Orchard
to the Downtown area.

From  Interstate 355: Take it south, exit 80 east to 57 south. On 57 exit east on Sauk Trail and go
approximately 3 miles to Lakewood. Turn left and follow Lakewood to the Downtown area.

5K WALK THE WETLANDS
Leisurely walk around the award winning Central Park Wetlands.
Enjoy the colorful native plants, 100 species of birds, and nature
displays. 5K walk from 9:00 a.m-11:00 am. Complete the 5K walk
and receive a prize! Wear appropriate clothing and footwear.

 

AQUA CENTER EVENTS

9:00 am -  Adults’ (18+) Lap Swim 
                  First 3 to finish 5 laps get a prize 

9:00 am -  Aqua Climb Races (all ages) 
                  *Fastest Female & Male Winner

*Sections of pools will not be available for general swim when pools are in use for activities listed above. 

Participants must wear a swimsuit to participate.
